Promise

The first stop of the Daughter of Black, after six weeks at sea. The group never set foot there: the dragon Brumargenta forbade the ship to dock, and they saw Promise only from the deck.

Promise does not show itself. You can only guess at it.

From the sea, all you can see is a wall: tall, greyish white, without windows or ornaments, following the edge of the island of Hermea with the precision of something built to last for centuries. No towers can be seen from the water, no banners, no sign of military life. On clear days, beyond the top of the walls, you can glimpse what might be a dome: white, enormous, almost organic in the way it gathers the morning light.

The island is said to be the domain of a great dragon, and the city can only be reached by invitation.

The outer harbour

The only point of contact with the outside world is a small harbour outside the walls: functional, orderly, guarded by figures in white and gold armour who do not speak unless they must. Goods go in; uninvited visitors never get close enough to see the entrance.

The Daughter of Black was not allowed to dock: the dragon Brumargenta intercepted the ship offshore. Only a rowboat was allowed to reach the outer harbour, leaving with a cargo and coming back with two passengers.
