The Ageless Promise

03. From here to there

Date: 12 Arodus 4734 AR (2 days since the fall of Mistreach)

The group confirmed with Willy (and accepted the 250-coin down payment) that the Lady Jemmy would sail the next day and that the voyage would last only one week, forcing Willy into debt to pay them.

The next morning they are visited by an MHI messenger bringing an invitation from Sedwyck: he will meet them at the town hall at 11:30 in the morning.

The PCs attended the meeting with Sedwyck Malbunta, who offered them several solutions to the refugee problem. Sigurd and Astrid were present, and despite some initial tension the meeting went smoothly. Sedwyck came away with the impression that these were people he could work with. The MHI sent a couple of physicians to help with the refugees, who had arrived in the meantime. The Jarl died, and after discussing the MHI and the various options Ivar became Jarl. His first decision was to refuse any help from the MHI, to lead the rest of the refugees back north, and to found a new village without anyone’s help.

This was communicated to Sedwyck, who did not take it well, suspecting trouble ahead.

He will keep a very interested eye on the situation.

Meanwhile Freya sneaked into the MHI factory in Birka and, snooping around, saw parts of automatons and the tanks where the processed oil is stored.

Then they set sail on the Lady Jemmy.

When they used Wilforth’s magic pendant, the whole ship was projected into the Plane of Shadow, where they were attacked by a figment of prey. They defeated it, thanks in part to the help of Ulric, the first mate of the Lady Jemmy, an Ulfar devoted to the Mother and gifted with strange magical powers. He later explained to them that he is heading to Xin-Edasseril to try to get in touch with a certain Vincent Roya, who is said to travel around looking for people who have shown powers like his, and to help them control them. Ulric also advised them not to land at Xin-Edasseril, to avoid checks by the Thassilonian officers, and suggested they take a rowboat and go ashore before reaching the harbour.

Once out of the shadows the PCs follow this plan, landing on a pebble beach near the capital.

Deciding to pass by the first, modest fishing village, they cross the island, cutting through its hilly centre, and after seeing some remains of ancient Thassilonian structures they reach the city of Skarvik (a mid-sized port city with an unusual architecture, inspired by the maritime cities of Spain).

During the journey Astrid finds signs left years before by her aunt, telling her that she has left a trail for her and that this place (Xin-Edasseril) is dangerous.

After taking rooms at the “Grape Cart” inn the PCs spend the night, and the session ends here.
