The Ageless Promise

09. Wheels in motion

Date: 11 Abadius 4735 AR (5 months and 1 day since the fall of Mistreach)

Freya spends most of these two weeks working on her potions, while the rest of the Ulfar go to the staging of Kono Subarashi Sekai!, the play by the Tian author Makoto Otsune. During the show (the only one truly appreciated by the Kintargo audience so far) the Ulfar pick up references to their own mission: the protagonists must deliver a relic called the sceptre of the moon to Absalom. The group tries to meet the Tians, without success. That same evening Alrik and the others attend Lady Faure’s salon. The Kintargan noblewoman sees the Ulfar as curious and useful allies, and asks them to help the Silver Council with one of its two open matters (the troubles at the silver mines or the remains of Barzillai Thrune). The group chooses to focus on the situation at the mines and is promised a reward of 300 gold coins if they manage to resolve it, plus another 200 (directly from Clémentine Faure) if they bring proof of the MHI’s involvement. The group accepts.

Before heading to the mines, however, the group learns that Mirelle Cossard and Miz Falounduche have disappeared, probably like all the other victims of the recent disappearances in Kintargo. Sif does some research and finds out that Barzillai Thrune, once killed, managed to become a powerful devil, and was destroyed again on his own plane, Dis. This should have ensured his complete destruction, but there is a piece of the puzzle missing.

Rumours also arrive of the imminent dissolution of the Order of the Torrent by the other major orders: this will clearly leave the city with several administrative problems.

The warriors of the North, accompanied by Freya, set off the next day for the silver mines, half a day’s journey from Kintargo.
