The Ageless Promise

The group reaches the Kintargo silver mines, half a day’s journey from the city. They immediately head into one of the galleries to investigate, and find several tunnels that seem to have been tampered with. They also find two miners, Luc and Jean, who go and fetch the foreman, Rennick Corvel. Convinced by the Silver Council’s official papers, he shares with the Ulfar what he has found: glass shards in several collapsed tunnels, and a single empty vial. There are no particular marks on the vial, but its smell recalls an acid agent used in the preliminary processing of the raw ore. Rennick also points them to Marcel, another miner, who found the vial and has raised suspicions about one of the new miners, a certain Duro. Getting him to talk was not easy, since the man fears that informing might backfire on him, but in the end he gives in. He says that Duro and some of his friends started working at the mine three weeks ago, exactly when the problems began. These suspicious new miners say they are refugees from the Ghostlands; sometimes they sleep in the bunkhouse, but very often they stay somewhere else.

Meanwhile Freya, with the help of her raven, discovers a former inn not far away, now abandoned, near which the group spots two well-armed people and a couple of large metal automatons. The group prepares for the assault, believing this to be where the saboteurs are based.
