The Ageless Promise

The Ulfar waste no time and decide to attack. In the fight one of the two armed men, recognised as mercenaries of the Iron Dragons, is killed by Alrik, while the other two surrender and are captured. Inside the dilapidated inn Skarl, invisible, tries to escape, but Sif has blocked the back door, so he slips out towards the entrance. Sif, however, manages to hit him with some tricks she uses on stage, revealing his position. After a chase through the forest Skarl surrenders too and, after being threatened and questioned, he tells the group everything: their operation was funded by the MHI, whose regional director for Ravounel has not yet arrived.

Inside the inn the group finds a coded document proving the MHI’s involvement with the mercenaries, and Skarl hands Astrid a sheet of orders, this time not from the MHI but from the leaders of the Iron Dragons, instructing them to keep an eye on an Ulfar woman matching her description and report her position. The Iron Dragons are looking for Astrid, but why?

Skarl also hands over the activation keys of the two automatons held by the mercenaries, and the Ulfar, after reporting to Rennick at the mines, deliver the mercenaries to Clémentine, who rewards the group with a credit note for 500 gold coins.

Back in Kintargo the group is immediately intercepted by Raigo Ayuwara and Makoto Otsune, who ask to talk in private. Once everyone is back at the Ulfar’s house, the two Tian women explain that they have found the way into the lair of the spirit behind all the disappearances in Kintargo, but that they need help to deal with it, hinting that afterwards the two groups will talk about their respective missions, with references to Makoto’s play and to the “sceptre of the moon”.

The Ulfar say they need rest, having just come back from a demanding mission, and Raigo agrees, adding that someone from her group will join them that evening and go with them on this new mission.
